SUMMARY:"To Make a Demonstration\, to the Letter": Seven Distinct Maps of
 Longstreet's Gettysburg Performance
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Friday\,&nbsp\;October 11\, as author and his
torian Cory Pfarr critically reexamines the role that controversial Confed
erate Lieutenant General James Longstreet played at the battle of Gettysbu
 rg.&nbsp\;\nIn a February 1887 article\, while addressing continued critic
isms of his performance at the Battle of Gettysburg\, Longstreet advanced
 a curious suggestion\, heretofore unexplored\, which was to produce a “v
olume of distinct maps” of key points in the battle that would combat th
ese allegations and other falsehoods that had emerged in the postwar years
. Unfortunately for the historical record\, several inaccuracies of Longst
reet’s time have persisted into modern-day studies and the collective co
nsciousness of historical memory. This presentation will examine seven dis
tinct battle maps covering all three days of the battle\, using them as to
ols to thoroughly address some of the most persistent misrepresentations o
f Longstreet’s performance.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;\nMr. Pfarr works for the Depar
tment of Defense. He is the author of the award-winning&nbsp\;Longstreet a
 t Gettysburg: A Critical Reassessment&nbsp\;(McFarland Publishers\, 2019)
and&nbsp\;Righting the Longstreet Record at Gettysburg: Six Matters of Con
troversy and Confusion&nbsp\;(McFarland Publishers\, 2023). He is an assoc
 iate editor for&nbsp\;North &amp\; South Magazine\, contributor for&nbsp\;
 North &amp\; South Magazine&nbsp\;and&nbsp\;Gettysburg Magazine\, and has
appeared on the Pennsylvania Cable Network and C-SPAN American History TV.
He lives in Fallston\, Maryland with his wife and two children.\nThose wh
